As a follow up to the authors' Managing Teaching and Learning in Further and Higher Education (Falmer Press, 1994) this book provides the definitive and comprehensive guide to managing quality and standards from the lecturer's point of view. Based on the model of the lecturer as reflective practitioner, the readable style of this book enables the reader to make sense of the changing climate of quality control and academic standards. Its practical, interactive design introduces stimulating ideas and suggestions for further reading and point the way forward on issues of relevance to individual readers. Throughout the role of the lecturer is presented as that of manager of quality and standards. The authors do not pretend that there are easy solutions to the dilemmas lecturers face but the style of the book, particularly the inclusion of Enquiry Tasks (so popular with readers of the first book) enable the reader to explore issues raised in the context of their own work place.
