On Institute affairs [White was a Fellow of the Institute who took over from C.L. Eastlake in 1878 the salaried post of RIBA Secretary]; says of the architect Emile Franzos Boeswilwand, Inspector General of Historical Monuments in France, and the restorer of Laon Cathedral `There is no person in France to whom a medieval restoration can be more safely intrusted'; opposes proposed changes to the charter and constitution of the RIBA; points out inaccuracies in a RIBA notice of the architect Joseph Louis Duc and objects to the way his magnificent collection of photographs of Paris buildings, presented by him to the Institute, had been catalogued; as Hon. Sec.of the Late William Young Fund [to raise money for the widow and five children of Young who died in 1877 in distressed circumstances] thanks the RIBA for the use of its rooms for a meeting of the subscribers; establishment by the RIBA of a charitable fund for relief of distressed architects and their families.
