Résumé du livre
Writing to Stephens, a biographer of Thomas Jefferson, Everett says that there is no evidence of a monarchical sentiment in the U.S. - "a monarchical government would be so entirely at war with our historical antecedents and the whole frame-work of our society," and that it would be in error to ascribe those sentiments to Jefferson. Everett begins the letter by complaining about the lies written about him in the newspapers regarding his views on "the recent outrages in Kansas."
