Because he is black, lawman Otis McGee suffers a close brush with Judge Lynch after a young white girl, Eunice Thark, is found raped outside the township of Tulsa. How can he escape the angry mob and trace the real assailant? Otis has other problems - a wildcat oilman, busy cheating the Indians out of their land rights, has reasons for wanting McGee dead, and a gang of desperadoes is also after his blood. How can Otis outgun or outwit them and how can he save the dead girl's beautiful twin, Violet, from a similar fate to that of her sister?.
