PART ONE OF FIVE THE SIEGE 1745 Uprising Historical Fiction. The Jacobite army is in retreat from England. Jamie Maclaren and Fergus McLeod, two highlanders, revisit the family that billeted them on their triumphant move south. General Hugh Cairs is knighted after the battle of culloden moor and rewarded for his military activities. A large Stately house called Clanmere is bestowed upon him and he and his family take up residence and become the custodians.Meanwhile the defeated highlanders plan to lay siege on Clanmere house with the purpose of assasinating Sir Hugh and spurring a third uprising. Jamie and Fergus become involved with protecting Clanmere and the Cairns family. Hugh's daughter Cathy Cairns and the highlander Jamie Mclaren seal their love on the bridge at Clanmere.
