Anonymous travel diary most likely written by Janet Scott while traveling Europe with her friends and classmates Hellen, Harriet, Esther, Mary, and Alberta, as well as her principal Miss [Alice] Reynolds. The first entry, dated Wednesday, July 25, details their arrival in France from England and describes their accomodations and activities. In France, they mainly stay in Paris, but there is also mention of Calais and Versailles. They then travel to Switzerland where Janet records exploring Lake Geneva, Jungfrau, and Lucerne. The party then travel to Italy where they explore Milan, Venice, Florence, Naples, Pompeii, Rome, and Pisa The final entry is dated Monday, September 17 and records her final thoughts about the trip and the voyage back to the United States. Throughout the trip, Janet diligently records their activities which include visiting museums (mainly art) and other cultural heritage institutions; attending concerts, operas, and plays; and exploring natural areas outside of the main cities they were staying in. She also writes about their accomodations, food, shopping, and encounters with local guides and others.
