This book covers the history of the horse in New South Wales from the First Fleet to 1900. Section 1 is devoted to the county of Cumberland up to 1860 and discusses horse owners and breeders among the military and civil officers, merchants and free settlers, emancipists and currency lads. The next four sections are devoted to the western districts, Hunter valley, northern NSW and the southern highlands.
