Hans Namuth visited Todos Santos, a small village in northern Guatemala, in the late 1940s. His fascination with the isolated mountain community led him to return in 1987 and continue his photographic documentation of the Maya culture which had survived despite the influence of western civilization and the civil war in Guatemala, during which political violence to control insurrection has been turned against the civilian population.
