Résumé du livre
First published as The Treasury under the Tories 1951-1964 and later revised as Steering the Economy, this study has now been further revised and completely updated. The book covers the management of the economy from Dalton and Cripps to the present day. It gives a brilliant account of how the Treasury works and an assessment of its political influence. This new (and final) edition discusses some previously unpublicized information on the policies of the Wilson Government and concludes with some hard-hitting observations on inflation, unemployment, the E.E.C., and taxation, of great relevance to the policies of the new Conservative Government. Samuel Brittan has also added entirely new sections on the money supply and the fiscal balance.
