Résumé du livre
This study assesses the potential for improvement in the development, allocation, & management of timber resources on Crown land in New Brunswick. The study uses benchmarking to identify opportunities for the province to improve performance. It presents a case study of the forest sector in Finland to demonstrate lessons for New Brunswick on the impact that policies & investments can have on forest productivity. New Brunswick benchmarks related to forest policy objectives, protected areas, management roles & responsibilities, wood supply objectives, and industry competitiveness are compared to those in Finland, Sweden, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Maine. Finally, it presents sets of changes (scenarios) that illustrate how long-term wood supply for industrial purposes can be increased within current objectives for Crown land usage. Conditions for implementation of the scenarios are also outlined.
