The rest of the papers comprise carbon copies of typed letters originally written while Allan was serving as a doctor in France, Mesopotamia, and India during World War 1. The correspondence was private between father and son. These letters continue on from others that were published in the book, "Letters from a Young Queenslander." They describe his experiences during the war in Mesopotamia and India and were published in 1916 by Watson, Ferguson and Co. Ltd., of Brisbane as "Mesopotamia and India." The last letter was written in England in 1918 and was unpublished. It appears that it was going to be included in another book to have been titled "Letters from an Australian."
