Résumé du livre
A Weekly Journal of stories, anecdotes, reminiscences, verse, mentioning health on Ship, weather, deaths, position at sea, etc. The Palmerston Weekly Journal consists of 10 numbered issues with printed titles and numbers. Inscribed to Alexander Watson and with the small circular green stamp of James Gow Bookseller & Stationer Coleraine. Laid between Issues 7 and 8 is a signed holograph copy of Paisley-born poet Thomas Kibble Hervey's The Convict Ship on a single folded sheet. These journals generally consisted of single-copy issues which were read aloud to the assembled prisoners who were invited to contribute further stories, articles, poems etc. calculated to entertain and stimulate discussion. Most issues include a weekly record in which the ship's progress is charted, landmarks identified, other ships encountered and prisoners are exhorted to avail themselves of the potential opportunities to open up a new chapter in their lives when they reached Australia.
