Environments of a Heavy Joy

This second series continues to explore familial perseverance in relation to the Black maternal health crisis. I display the most recent body of work through imagery and multidisciplinary practice. In the paintings, dance performance, and audio installations, I am foregrounding familial figures tethered by past trauma and who have overcome by way of healing, coping and finding joy. They are reflected in dreamlike atmospheres that are based in the past, present or future. It is a full display of the works created over the span of three years after my debut series, Human | Mother | Black.
