Based on data for a representative sample of 26,000 households drawn from the Family Resources Survey 1995/96 and in-depth interviews with 40 families at different stages in the life cycle, discusses the links between income, wealth and the life cycle, focusing on three main types of wealth: financial savings, housing wealth and pension wealth.
