Résumé du livre
"A rare and particularly beautiful edition of Theocritus, the originator of Greek bucolic verse, elegantly designed and printed by Didot. This edition includes the "Idylls" as well as a selection of Theocritus' other poetry in three languages: the original Greek and the French translation parallel, with the Latin version neatly running across the bottom of the pages. The late eighteenth-century was the golden age for Didot, booksellers, type-designers and printers renowned for their innovations, particularly in the design of type. Certainly this edition presents a particularly good example of Didot's fine typography, using an elegant Greek letter for the original text. The translation is by M. Gail, who also supplied the introduction on the origins of pastoral poetry and Theocritus' most famous successor, Virgil"--Booksellers' note.
